Adaptation Practice is a way of training ourselves to see life as it really is and to live in harmony with the understanding that comes from that insight.
This is probably the safest and most effective way to stop depression, anxiety, stress and anger.
In order to change from how we are now to being able to cope with emotion and how our moods and feelings affect us, we need to follow a way. In Adaptation Practice this way is laid out in a training programme of simple instructions that are not easy but can be done by any adult who is willing to try.
Training consists of instructions on how to change our habitual reactions without causing harm or upset to ourselves or other people.
The practice starts with what we can do: not with what we cannot yet do. Inner strength develops in us by following the instructions just as muscular strength develops by doing physical exercise. Gradually, an inner strength develops with which we are able to cope with ever stronger emotion, moods and feelings.

The practice itself is derived from years of study and training in Zen Buddhist practice. It does not depend on drugs or theories or concepts or any other ways of thinking. As a practical way it is at all times in harmony with modern medicine and science.
From the Zen Buddhist point of view, the psychological and mental distress that afflicts us and leads to so much suffering (especially as depression, anxiety, stress and anger) is regarded not as originating because of chemicals in the brain or as thoughts in the mind, but as emotional energy starting in the middle of the body and giving rise to our moods and feelings.
Emotion gives rise to all the physiological changes in the body, all the unpleasant sensations, moods, feelings and thoughts that so distress us.
This understanding and insight into human nature and the human mind constitute the most profound and insightful philosophy and psychology ever known.
It provides us with a safe and effective way to relieve suffering, to cope with emotion and how our moods and feelings affect us.
