Sitting meditation sessions

Next session Thursday  27 August 2026 – 7 pm BST

Weekly – by invitation only

If you have attended any of these sessions, send an email if you will not be attending a session.

These meditation sessions are for those who are already training in Adaptation Practice, have been shown how to sit in meditation, and have been given the practice notes for sitting meditation.

Gallery View / Leaving

Throughout the session make sure the Zoom setting is on Gallery View.

At the end of the session wait for the teacher to leave and then leave quietly, without saying anything or waving.

Individual meetings

Let me know at any time if you would like an individual meeting. Contact.

Regular attendance

Regular attendance is necessary for training in Adaptation Practice. If it is not possible to attend you can ask by email for an individual talk.

Confidentiality

We all have different reasons for training in Adaptation Practice. Nobody else will know why you are doing the Practice and you should not assume you know why anyone else is doing it.

We do not talk about ourselves or express our opinions or ideas. Nor do we talk later about the people we meet in these classes.

Programme

Classes will start promptly at the time stated. We sit for 30 minutes followed by a talk on the Practice.

Be ready before we start

Make sure you are already sitting in meditation posture on an upright chair or on a mat on the floor (only if you can sit with both knees firmly on the mat as shown in the notes), with the camera turned on and the microphone turned off and all other unessential gadgets that would cause a disturbance or distraction have been turned off, such as mobile devices, email, alarm clocks. And do not have pets in the room.

Be sitting ready before the bell sounds and then hold the posture, keeping still with eyes slit open facing down and not looking up or around, until the bell sounds (three times) again and you are invited to sit comfortably.

The camera should be far enough away to show the upper half of your body. It must be stable, not held in the hand — the hands are held together on the lap.

Once the bell sounds try your best to keep still. This might be difficult for some of us but we can try — and in any case do not scratch or fidget or be seen or heard to yawn.

Throughtout the talk sit up straight with hands together and avoid fidgeting and scratching. Do not get up and leave and do not turn the camera off until the whole session has finished and the teacher has left. This is all part of the Practice.

Do not send any messages or comments of any kind in the ‘Chat’ function on Zoom. Regard it as ‘out of bounds’. And, do not use the Zoom icons such as raising a hand or any other symbols.

Remember that posture and composure are fundamental to the Practice. Keep quiet and reasonably still throughout the talk. If there is time for questions you will be invited to ask them.

If you arrive late wait until you are admitted to the session and make sure you are sitting in the meditation posture and all adjustments on the computer have been done before joining.

We do not eat or drink anything during these sessions.

If you attend regularly or occassionally, please email at least a day before to say if you will not be attending.

If you have any personal questions you can ask them by the usual email address or arrange to meet online.
